Remembering José Jaspe

Born José Jaspe Rivas on August 10, 1906 in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. He became a stage actor as a child and then went into films after the Spanish Civil War. During the heyday of the Spaghetti westerns José was a much sought after character and supporting actor. He usually played Mexican generals, bandits, gang members and henchmen with equal zest in both dramatic and comedic roles. José appeared in over 20 Euro-westerns in such films as far back as "The Nephew of Buffalo Bill" (1944) till his last western "The Man Called Noon" (1973). He was also seen in such westerns as "The Relentless Four" (1965), "White Comanche" (1968), "Cowards Don’t Pray" (1969) "Gunman in Town" (1970) and "Don’t Turn the Other Cheek" (1971). Jaspe also made several TV appearances and was married to actress Mercedes Vecino [1916-2004] until his death on June 5, 1974. Today we remember José Jaspe on what would have been his 105th birthday.
