Spaghetti Western Locations

Continuing our search for locations used in “Death Rides a Horse”. After Ryan is taken to the warden he is given his gun & holster along with 27 bullets and released from prison. The prison is the Castillo de San Felipe in Almeria, Spain.

The location of the prison is the Castillo de San Felipe located at the seafront of Los Escullos, Almeria. During the reign of Carlos III of Spain this fort was built for coastal defense, by the regulation of 1764. It consisted of a battery with common rooms, chapel and barracks around a courtyard with barbican and ditch. This battery was taken by the French during the War of Spanish Independence. In the mid-nineteenth century it was occupied by police forces responsible for coastal surveillance. It was abandoned in 1900 and fell into disrepair until it was reconstructed in 1991.

Up the dirt road you take leading to Los Escullos Almeria is the site of the building used as the exterior of the church used in “For a Few Dollars More” and the tower which was added and blown up by Coburn and Steiger in “Duck You Sucker”.
